In order to make this ring, Dan starts by melting raw platinum and gold into two ingots, and then hand-mills the ingot into ring stock. The pictured band is 8mm wide and 2mm thick, and is finished with a comfort fit profile. Dan has hammered the band with our "cobblestone" hammering, but other hammering styles are possible, as well. The finish can be satin (as pictured) or polished.
Platinum has an extremely high melting point (3236 degrees F), so working with raw platinum requires a big torch, dark glasses, and lots of fire. Because the metal is cold worked, hand forged bands like this one are denser and stronger than bands that are cast.
One of the noblest of metals, platinum has a wear characteristic that outlasts gold 10x to 1x. For our platinum jewelry we use an alloy that is 95% platinum and 5% ruthenium.
This listing covers up to size 10. Size 10.25 and above, or for different dimensions or choice of metal, please contact us for pricing.
