This beautiful platinum high dome band is made from scratch. Dan starts by melting the platinum into an ingot and then hand-rolls the ingot into this particular size and width. He fusion-welds the band, then forms the ring and hard-rolls it for durability. Finally, the ring is finished to a high polish.
One of the noblest of metals, platinum has a wear characteristic that outlasts gold 10x to 1x. We use an alloy that is 95% platinum and 5% ruthenium in our platinum jewelry.
High dome bands were originally designed to complement solitaires and are taller than regular half round bands, but also look great by themselves. The last picture above shows a half round and a high dome for comparison. The half round is approximately 2.5mm wide and is available for purchase in a separate listing.
Platinum has an extremely high melting point (3236 degrees F), so working with raw platinum requires a big torch, dark glasses, and lots of fire. The final three pictures show Dan melting platinum into an ingot, which he then handmills into ring stock prior to forging it into shape.
This listing covers up to size 7. Size 7.25 and above, or for different dimensions or choice of metal, please contact us for pricing.
